Understanding Frameless Shower Doors
A frameless shower door system is actually very simple. It consists of three primary components:
• Glass
• Hardware
• Seals
When a shower begins leaking, doesn’t close properly, or no longer performs as it should, the cause usually comes down to one or more of these three components.
Understanding how they work together makes it much easier to diagnose the real problem instead of simply replacing parts.
Seals
Shower seals naturally wear over time due to:
✔ Daily use
✔ Hard water buildup
✔ Soap residue
✔ Aging materials
✔ Lower-quality seals installed during the original construction
Replacing worn seals is often one of the easiest and most affordable ways to restore the performance of your shower.
Hardware
Another common issue is shower hardware that has gradually moved out of adjustment.
One of the most common causes occurs during the original installation. If hinge screws are tightened with a power tool without properly using the clutch, uneven clamping pressure can be created across the glass.
When one screw is significantly tighter than the others, the load is no longer shared evenly. Over time, this can allow the door to shift slightly out of alignment.
Even a small amount of movement may cause:

✔ Poor door closure

✔ Additional stress on the hardware
A properly adjusted shower door allows the seals to perform exactly as they were designed.
Before You Begin
✔ Verify your glass thickness.
✔ Compare your existing seal with our product photos.
✔ Clean the glass thoroughly before installation.
✔ Measure twice before cutting.
✔ Adhesive-backed products should always be installed on a clean, dry surface for the best bond.

After more than 40 years installing custom frameless shower doors, I’ve learned that replacing a seal doesn’t always solve the problem.
If your door has dropped, rubs the wall, doesn’t close evenly, or leaks from multiple locations, the hardware may simply need adjustment.
Many leaks are caused by door alignment rather than a defective seal. Taking a few minutes to inspect both the hardware and the seals can save time, money, and frustration.
